Recently reported in the New York Times, He Jiankui, a scientist from China, claimed to have edited the DNA of human babies using the CRISPR technique.
The scientific community heavily criticized his actions, and he is currently under guard pending further investigation.
The library's Credo Reference database has an article that looks at this further and explains why it can be an ethical problem.
There is also a Credo Reference topic page on this and other kinds of Gene Therapy, defined as a "medical technique that alters genes inside the body's cells to treat or prevent disease."
What do you think about the ethics of editing human DNA?
For this and other topics this quarter, Credo Reference is a good place to start your research and read up on general information.
